This practical experience in engineering construction has enabled me to deeply feel the difference between theory and practice. It has not only enabled me to seriously learn the theoretical knowledge but also to focus on strengthening my practical hands-on ability for a comprehensive development of the project. At the same time, engineering measurement is also a technical field that requires personnel to be serious, careful, and patient. Team members should also work together to maintain high accuracy in all aspects of measurement, as this is the only way to efficiently complete our measurement tasks.
In fact, this measurement experience makes me feel the deepest the close cooperation between players. Initially, as a group of nine people, we had no clear division of labor, and the results of our measurement work were very slow. However, we soon found that measurement work encompasses all aspects, and we immediately assigned specific tasks, defined our individual roles, such as: in the measurement of elevation, the need for personnel to help in turning points to assist in leveling, a classmate responsible for adjusting the instrument and readings, and a student responsible for correcting readings, recording data, etc. In addition, there is a student specifically responsible for data checking to ensure smooth measurement work. As an example, we were divided into three groups, one group with a steel ruler, the other with a tape measure at the same time, and there is a group responsible for processing data and drawing. Through this, we had a clear division of labor, unity, and cooperation, and efficiently completed our measurement work.
Moreover, the measurement work is complex and involves many details, such as selecting the datum point, marking, installing the instrument, adjusting the level, setting the level of the ruler, aiming at the target, recording data, processing the data, and checking errors. So many details are important, and any step cannot be wrong, or it may need to be retested, bringing unnecessary trouble to the measurement. To give an example: when using a vertical ruler and a central level bubble, trying to align it in the middle position is a technical skill that requires a fast and accurate positioning. However, the ruler cannot be arbitrarily placed on the ground; otherwise, it will cause data deviation and need to be re-tested, delaying the measurement process. Therefore, for measurement work, a serious and careful attitude is essential.
The measurement practice also made me understand the hardships of construction and the importance of teamwork. In order to ensure that internships can be completed on time, our group members often get up at six o'clock every morning, arrive at the measuring location, place the instruments, then take turns to eat breakfast. Sometimes we do not take a nap at noon and work until dark before returning to dinner. Often staying up late to finish data processing until 12 o'clock before going to bed... Although we are a little tired and hard-working during this period, I believe these days are my most fulfilling days. Because during these days, I not only learned a lot of knowledge that cannot be obtained in the classroom but also developed some good habits that will be of great help to my future development.
